I recently spent a few days in Disney World. I have previously been to Disneyland twice but this trip was different. Not just because of the fact that Disney World is so much bigger than Disneyland but because I now look at the world a little bit different than I did before.
I would like to think my level of awareness is greater now that it was before. No big accomplishment in itself, but I find myself looking at not what happens in the park, but what happens to the people in the park.
Everyone knows that Disney is the place “where Dreams come true” and I don’t want to take anything away from the long standing Disney slogan, but the truth is – dreams at Disney are simply a temporary condition. Don’t get me wrong – everyone should experience the magic that happens in a Disney Park but what happens when the vacation is over and we return to reality?
I believe you don’t have to go to a theme park to make your dreams come true. I think you can achieve your dreams by committing to what you’re passionate about and making a plan to achieve them.
I am currently in Columbus, Ohio, completing my certification of the Deeper Path Coaching Program developed my friend and mentor Kary Oberbrunner. Part of the process is to create our own “I have a dream” speech. What I found in doing this was two fold. One, it forced me to really think about what was important to me and two, it is possible.
Putting together my “I have a dream” speech told me a lot about myself. I realized that much of the time I have invested in my life has had nothing to do with my dreams. Other parts of my dream have received very little attention and there were a few parts of my dream that I have worked towards achieving, but I really didn’t understand the significance.
We have all used the expression “livin’ the dream” but it usually used in a sarcastic manner suggesting that we are doing anything but living our dream. I now know that life does not have to be this way. We can live out our dreams.
“Get a good idea, and stay with it. Dog it, and work it until it’s done, and done right.” – Walt Disney
I think he was right. The problem is that very seldom do we stick with it. Why? Because it’s hard. I believe for the most part, we choose easy over hard. Another mentor of mine recently said this:
“Do the easy things now and life will be hard. Do the hard things now and life will be easy.” – Paul Martinelli
I think that’s why very few people actually achieve and live out their dreams. I know I have a lot of hard work to do to live out my dream, but I am willing to do it. Your dreams can come true and you don’t need to visit a theme park to have it happen. The only way to achieve your dream is to first know what it is, so What Is Your Dream?
